Is A Mountain Bike A Good Idea For A Nine Year Old Boy?
Often people wonder if a mountain bike is a good idea for a nine year old boy. Should you consider a mountain bike or a normal road bike? The answer to this question will, of course depend on what you want for your son.
Personally I prefer a road bike. I cannot say that it has any scientific reason; a mountain bike simply feels sturdier to me. A mountain bike is also more versatile and that is a good thing because you never know where a nine year old is going to go with his bike!
So, yeas I think a mountain bike is a good idea for a nine year old boy and there are a few things you have to be on the lookout for when you are looking at mountain bikes for your son.
1. Make sure the bike is strong. You can be certain a nine your old boy is going to subject a bike to some abuse. The cheap, boxed discount store kind is not going to be able to stand up to it. Remember he will be using the bike for a few years before he outgrows it.
2. Make certain the gears on the bike are good gears. You want him to learn how to use a bicycle’s gears properly and if the gears on his first bike are not good it is not going to be a good start.
3. Make sure you know where he is going to be riding his bike and that it is safe. To be honest, if you can go with him at first it will be the best. You have to be sure he can handle his bike and that he knows the basic safety measure he has to take when he is out riding.
4. Get him the right safety gear. If he is going to go out riding you have to make sure he has the right safety gear. I see so many kids riding around without even a safety helmet on! It is simply not worth taking such risks with your son’s life. Make sure he has the basic safety gear and make sure he wears it.
Now you can go and get your nine year old boy a mountain bike and watch his pleasure when he is out riding.
