2009 Yamaha Raptor 700R
Introduced in 2001, the Raptor became an instant hit to the. Eight years later the Raptor still is a best-seller, not some one hit wonder. In 2009 the Raptor became the first ATV equipped with a fully functional digital meter. The new gauge includes a speedometer, an odometer, engine warning, gear position indicators and even a clock. Limited-edition Raptors also come in with new wave-type rear brake discs.
At 686cc, this fuel injected engine is the most powerful ATV in Yamaha’s lineup, producing a huge torque right off idle. The Raptors’ engine features forged pistons and connecting rods which are lightweight and strong. Equipped with a 16 bit TCI (Transistor Controlled Ignition) which improves throttle response, the Raptor maintains excellent engine performance in various conditions.
Harnessing the 686cc mill’s power is a crankshaft mounted on two counter-balancers that keep vibrations low at high rpms. A YZ-spec ratchet shifter ensures smooth transmission of power in the 5-speed gearbox with reverse.
Keeping the ride smooth are new SOQI aluminum piggyback shocks with adjustable preload and rebound. The shocks have 9.1 inches of travel on the front and 10.1 inches at the rear. Previously exclusive on the 2007 SE model, the standard Raptor now have high and low speed compression damping adjustability. New double-wishbone front A-arms and the swingarms are made of lightweight aluminum reducing weight.
The Raptors frame design is a hybrid of high tensile strength steel and cast aluminum at front and die cast aluminum rear frame. The design makes the ATV compact and lightweight and ensuring optimum rigidity. See this design in automotive repair manuals.
Stock Dunlop radial tires on aluminum wheels provide good traction and reduce unsprung weight. The Raptor uses hydraulic brakes with twin-piston calipers gripping on discs while the special edition gets a wave-type rear disc. You can see this aluminum wheels in Clymer Repair Manuals.
Proven and tested for almost a decade the 2009 Yamaha Raptor 700R still continues to entice riders looking for power and performance. Keeping up with technology along the years is Yamaha’s specialty, and they outdid themselves again in this ATV.
