The Cruiser Is Back
The bicycle has been reinvented again well maybe history is repeating itself.
For many years your only choice in a bike was the sleek skinny tired racing bikes that forced you into a pretzel to ride while keeping your head down or the over sized tires of a mountain bike. While both of these styles have their place the new or old idea gas come back yes the cruiser is making a come back. Most every manufacture now makes a cruiser.
In this day of rising fuel prices and less and less quality family time bike riding is becoming a fast growing trend and the people who are beginning to ride again are the middle aged whether for the exercise or to help conserve energy. This group of people is purchasing the new cruisers they are more comfortable to ride with swept back handlebars soft spring seats and repositioned pedals that farther forward this allows the rider to fully extend their legs while pedaling and put both feet on the pavement when at a stop.
Jon from Denver loves his new cruiser he starts every day weather permitting with a short 2 mile ride to his office with flame decals on the fenders and a briefcase strapped in his basket. It is great claims Jon I start the day with a little exercise the new design of the cruisers allow me to wear regular clothes while riding and the extra fat tires coupled with the over sized sprung seat make riding the cruiser a delight.
Jon spends many an evening riding with his wife and son who believe it or not also rides cruisers we bike around town down to the local ball fields and watch the kids play ball the it off to the ice cream stand for a cone. It is just another way for us to spend quality time as a family and get some exercise.
Cursier night is not just for cars anymore several towns now cater to new bike cruisers they have monthly or even weekly cruiser nights instead of cars everybody rides the cruiser bike. Many areas have bicycling clubs that have regular meeting it is a great way to meet new people. You may want to check with your local bike dealer or chamber of commerce for trails in your area many places now have the Rails to Trails program in place these are a fantastic place to ride as there is no car traffic to contend with.
I must caution you however once you start riding your new cruiser you may find yourself ridding to the local supermarket or to the post office, and why not what other type of low impact exercise can put the wind in your hair and a smile on your face.
